Best Places to Take Your Dog in Key West

February 27th, 2018 | Activities

You don’t have to go a moment without your best friend at The Gates Hotel, offering pet-friendly rooms. Want to see how dog-friendly the rest of the island is? Check out our guide to the best places to bring your dog.

For the adventurous pooch, check out Lazy Dog Charters. The dog-loving charters can set you and your dog up with a paddle board or kayak to explore nearby mangroves.

Likewise, pets are allowed on leashes at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. If you’re looking for off-leash areas for your dog, the Higgs Beach Dog Park is a good option with sections for small and large dogs, across the street from Higgs Beach. There’s also a tiny dog beach between two buildings, the Key West Dog Beach. This is a small spot for dogs to take a dip in the water near the Truman Annex.

Looking to enjoy a cold one with your best friend? Check out the very dog-friendly Half Shell Raw Bar in the Key West Bight. Enjoy happy hour in the old shrimp packing building, with outdoor picnic tables where you can sit and take in the comings and goings of boats in the historic harbor.

At The Gates Hotel’s Rum Row, we offer Yappy Hour to help raise money for the Keys SPCA. It includes raffle prize giveaways and more. Check out our event calendar to see when the next Yappy Hour is planned.

If you plan to enjoy the daily sunset celebration at  Mallory Square, dogs on a leash are welcome.

Also, if you need an hour in the AC, dogs are allowed on leash at the Key West Aquarium.

And remember, to keep our beaches and parks clean, pick up whatever your dog drops off.
