Who to See at the Key West Songwriters Festival 2022
It’s spring in Key West and that means blue skies, warm breezes, and Songwriters. The largest festival of its kind, the Key West Songwriters Festival returns May 4 - 8, 2022 to celebrate the artists that write their own songs - although they may not always be the ones performing them. The Key West Songwriters Festival is their chance to take center stage, performing on both the big stages and in more intimate settings. That said, here are the artists to keep on your radar at the Key West Songwriters Festival 2022:
Live @ Blue Heaven on Thursday, May 5, 2022 @ 5 p.m.
Best known for her work with Taylor Swift, Liz Rose has co-written songs including the Grammy nominated “You Belong with Me”, “Teardrops on My Guitar”, and the Grammy Award winning song “White Horse”. Since beginning her country music career in Nashville, the Texas-born songwriting powerhouse has launched her own publishing company, released original music, and written songs for other artists like Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Alison Krauss, and Chris Young (read on for where to see Young perform at Songwriters!).
Live @ Key West Theater on Thursday, May 5, 2022 @ 7 p.m.
Jessi Alexander is both singer and songwriter. With credits on tracks by Miley Cyrus, Lee Brice, Celine Dion, Little Big Town, and others, Alexander has garnered multiple #1’s with her mainstream pop hits. See her live at the Key West Theater with Jon Randall and Bruce Robison.
Live @ Sloppy Joe’s on Thursday, May 5, 2022 @7:30 p.m.
Al Anderson had a successful career in rock music for decades before shifting his focus to country music in the 90s. Since then, Anderson’s repertoire is as long as it is robust with star power, with hit songs for artists like Trisha Yearwood, Tim McGraw, Jimmy Buffett, Bonnie Rait, LeAnn Rimes, and George Strait. Catch Al Anderson at Sloppy Joe’s live on Thursday night.
Live @ Key West Theater on Friday, May 6, 2022 @ 7 p.m.
Known for his work on Florida Georgia Line’s title track on their 2016 album, Dig Your Roots, ERNEST has become quite the popular fixture on the country music circuit, writing songs for Jake Owen, Chris Lane, and Morgan Wallen. Yet it’s his country rap singles that make him stand out in the music scene. If you can’t wait until Friday night to see “Nashville's most unpredictable hit maker” at the Key West Theater, catch ERNEST at the Sunset Pier Kickoff Party on Wednesday, May 4, and the San Carlos Institute Theater on Thursday, May 5.
Live @ Coffee Butler Amphitheater on Friday, May 6, 2022 @ 8 p.m.
You might remember Chris Young from Nashville Star back in 2006. Back then, he placed 1st in the competition. These days, the country music singer-songwriter has released a total of eight full length studio albums to date, and has taken home awards at both the American Country Awards and CMT Music Awards. Get a preview of Young’s catalog during his set at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater.
Live @ the Main Stage on Saturday, May 7, 2022 @ 8:40 p.m.
Riley Green’s debut full-length studio album, Different ‘Round Here, came out in 2019 and was soon after named “New Male Artist of the Year” at the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards. See Green live, for free, on the Main Stage on Duval Street on May 7 before he joins Dierks Bentley on the Beers On Me Tour later this summer.
