The oft-congested sidewalks of the most fun street in America will now have a bit more breathing room on the weekends.

Creating a pedestrian-only promenade on Duval Street during the weekend, the “Mall on Duval” aims to please both tourists, locals, and local business owners. 

The famous byway will be closed from 5pm to midnight Friday and Saturday nights to traffic from Fleming to Petronia streets.

The city aims to stimulate local business traffic and draw locals back to Duval Street, which can be enjoyed in a more laid-back fashion. 

Mall on Duval is in its pilot phase, testing out what works best for business owners, locals and tourists. As of April, the program has been extended through July 2019.

The current area of Mall on Duval – which runs from Petronia to Fleming streets – highlights over 40 shops to peruse, 20 restaurants and bars, and art galleries.

Extra room has made participating restaurants able to offer “streetside” seating. Visitors can also bring along their dogs (on a leash) to enjoy the scene, and pedestrians have a bit more time to linger and explore Key West.

This is an exciting feature for locals, as well as visitors. It breathes a new kind of life into Duval Street that allows pedestrians to explore more in the area.
